A Smart Grid is a sustainable energy system that uses different communication and digital information technologies to provide sustainability, efficiency and security to the system in order to obtain an efficient management of the resources of the electrical network. Flexibility, scalability and efficient management are fundamental characteristics of a Smart Grid and involve telemetry and remote control to achieve remote management of the electrical network. The greatest difficulty in the implementation of a Smart Grid is to achieve the integration and coordination of the actors in the electricity value chain, because there is a great diversity of technologies, brands and entities that intervene in the different stages of the electrical network. This thesis integrates different technologies such as the RTU NovaTech, the Siemens PLC, among other elements, for the development of telemetry and remote control of Sentron PAC4200 meters and Lucas-Nülle busbars in order to improve the remote management of a Smart Grid. The integration of the devices was carried out using open industrial communication protocols. Also, to achieve telemetry and remote control, a WLAN at a frequency of 5GHz was considered. The project was implemented at the University of Engineering and Technology (UTEC) and was validated through the supervision and sending commands of an electric power circuit implemented on the second floor in the “Renewable Energies and Smart Grid” laboratory, from a SCADA developed on the fourth floor in the “Industrial Automation Laboratory”.
